After decades in Vermont's fabric industry, Alisa Darmstadt opened Joy of Home in 2024. In just two years, the South Burlington shop has worked with over 200 Vermont homes and businesses.
At our core, we're a custom workroom. Built on careful craft, lasting quality, and a real point of view about what makes a room come to life.
Sustainability lives in the details. Pillows are often made from fabric remnants. Furniture is given a second life. And our sourcing partners, Shupaca, In2Green, Divya Living, are chosen for the way they make what they make, not just what they make.
Some of the most meaningful work we do starts with a piece of furniture someone already loves. A grandmother's chair. A sofa with good bones and tired upholstery.
We bring it back with new fabrics, new inserts, new seat supports, new life. The piece you remember, made for the way you live now.
From custom upholstery and slipcovers to cushions and window treatments, every project is crafted in-house and designed for the actual room it's going in.
The shop in South Burlington is where it all comes together. Fabric bolts and sample books line the walls. Reupholstered finds wait in the showroom. The accents that finish a room are right there to touch.
We carry custom pillows, alpaca and wool throws, natural-fiber rugs from Divya Living, and one-of-a-kind reupholstered furniture, pieces that complement the custom work we do for Vermont homes every day.
